Terms of Agreement

We have a few terms and conditions that you should read first, just to make sure we’re on the same page - but don’t worry, you will always retain your image rights.

In submitting your image to us you agree to the following:

1) You are the sole and exclusive owner of the image and, as such, that you hereby authorise for it to be promoted and sold by The Observatory Photography Gallery. The image does not infringe on a third party’s intellectual property rights, and that you have model release forms for any identifiable people in the image.

2) The Observatory Photography Gallery reserves the rifht to set, and occasionally change, the price at which prints of the image are advertised and sold.

3) The Observatory Photography Gallery and the Artist will each receive 50% of the net profit generated from sales of the print – excluding that of the first print sale of each print size from which The Observatory will retain all of the net profit in order to cover the initial set-up costs.

4) Each time a payment is received by The Observatory Photography Gallery the commission will be transferred to the Artist’s bank account within a quarter of the sale (The Observatory Photography Gallery will ask for the Artist’s preferred transfer details after the sale of the first print of each print size).

5) The Observatory Photography Gallery uses GBP as the base currency in which prints are advertised and sold. Conversion fees will be deducted from the Artist’s commission if they require payment to be made in a different currency.

6) The Observatory Photography Gallery reserves the right to select and curate all of the images displayed in the gallery and advertised through the online store.

7) The Observatory Photography Gallery may use the Artist’s image to market The Spotlight Collection.

8) The Observatory Photography Gallery may advertise the Artist’s image for sale through social media.

12) The Observatory Photography Gallery may leave the Artist’s work untitled.

FAQs

What paper type do you use?

Our prints are printed on Hahnemühle Giclée fine art paper.

How do you decide what sizes my print will be sold at?

Depending on the original file size of your photograph, The Observatory Photography Gallery will aim to print each image at two or three sizes. As an example, these are the sizes for a 3:2 image:

Small (15” x 10”)

Medium (18” x 12”)

Large (24” x 16”)

Images of different dimensions will be sized similarly.

Are prints editioned?

All prints sold through The Spotlight Collection will be editioned at 40 for each size – with a certificate of authenticity.

How should I title my image?

Please send your image with its name, the location where you took the photo and also the year it was taken.

Do you offer customers the chance to buy the image framed?

No - we point them towards readily-available frame sizes (which is why we stipulate common fixed ratios for your images).

Do you have an exhibition space as well as an online store?

Yes! The Observatory Photography Gallery is an independent photography gallery in central London.

Can I publicise on social media?

Once your image is on the online store, we would love you to share and publicise it on your own social media!

How many images by one artist do you sell?

Generally, one - but sometimes two or three (we’ll get back to you another time if we want more than one of your images).

Is there a minimum time limit on your representation?

No - there doesn’t have to be (please see the terms of agreement).

What’s the price point?

Prints will initially have 2 or 3 prices, depending on the size at which they can be printed. Currently, prices range from £75 and £275. The price of bestselling images will be increased.

If I am exhibiting with The Observatory Photography Gallery, can I sell my prints elsewhere?

Yes, absolutely! We do not need you to sell your prints exclusively with us. Although we do encourage you to sell your prints at the same price across all your channels.
